My Story
I took my first surf lesson in Malibu from a girl in her van with a couple of boards. I don’t remember much from this day. But I do remember the feeling I got after catching my first wave. Paddling back out, my only thought was that I just experienced a glimpse into the rest of my life.
“This is it, this is what I am here to do.” thought by my 12 year old self…
Flash forward 9 years…
Hi, I’m Sasha, the owner of Surf Slow Academy.
My goal is to share my love of surfing with as many girls as possible!
I’ve been teaching surf lessons in Wrightsville Beach, Nicaragua and Costa Rica for over 5 years now.
Costa Rica has been home base for the past 6 winters. The slow, healthy, mindful lifestyle of the country is inspiring to me.
I created Surf Slow to be a place where girls can feel empowered, supported, and inspired to chase their dreams both in and out of the water. Teaching is more than just a job for me; it’s a way to pass on the confidence, joy, and connection to nature that surfing has given me.

My surf sisters and friends inspire me to keep going. Every time I’m out there with them, I don’t feel judged or pressured to do well—I just have fun. Everyone cheers for each other, laughs, and has a great time, and that’s what keeps me inspired to surf.
